About St Ambrose Players
St Ambrose Players are an award winning amateur dramatics society performing at St Ambrose Halls for All in Leyland. We rehearse Tuesday and Thursday evenings, 7.30pm until 10pm. As show week nears we also add in a couple of extra rehearsals on a Sunday afternoon and Friday evening. All the while we aim to make the show fun for our cast and crew, whilst aiming to produce high quality shows for our audiences!
And Panto Makes Four
By the 1980s, the Society was at its height, having been established for almost 40 years. In 1982, the decision was made to add a pantomime into what was regularly becoming our four shows a year season, and thus our Play, Musical, Play and Pantomime, rhythm began. Our Christmas panto soon became a wonderful way to entertain the local community during the Christmas season and remains our most popular show of the year.
Surviving in the 21st Century
As anyone involved in Amateur Theatre will know, costs are continually rising, costumiers going out of business, licences becoming harder and harder to obtain, rents are rising, lighting and sound equipment is continually breaking and competition is high! This is why we at St Ambrose Players, greatly value all of our friends on the local and national amateur dramatics scene, and the local businesses, patrons and friends who continually lend their support. Without our friends, we would simply not survive into the next 70 years. It is true that much has changed since our early years, or, I venture to say, since our heyday in the 1960s and 70s, but with the continued support from the local community, we hope to be performing well into the 21st Century, with our members as committed to continuously performing the high quality shows we have always been so proud of, and to providing that one significant element, for our audiences and our membership, that no amateur theatre group would be complete without; simply the fun of a great show.
